What really lay behind Tutankhamen's mask? You’ll never guess!
As part of Library Up Late, the National Library of Australia's 18+ Adults Only Night, join Dr L.J.M. Owen in the Lower Ground Floor Theatre for a two-part talk on the salacious sexual history of ancient Egypt.
Part 1: Divine Taboos (7.15pm-7.35pm)
How the myths of Ancient Egypt influenced attitudes towards women’s sexuality, homosexuality and sexual taboos + penis sheaths and pregnancy tests.
Part 2: Royal Perversions* (9.45pm-10.15pm)
The Pharaonic world of incest, necrophilia, public masturbation and castration + what really lay behind Tutankhamun’s mask?
*Includes spontaneous combustion.
Tickets: Entry to the talk is included in the $15 General Entry tickets for the night, which also cover hours of activities, entertainment, food and drink.
After Part 1, L.J. will head upstairs to the NLA Bookshop at 7.40pm to sign copies of Egyptian Enigma, the novel that inspired the talk and the third instalment in the Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth series.
L.J. will be warming up the Theatre for Benjamin Law and his mum, Jenny Phang, who'll be dispensing advice to desperate lovers and sexual adventurers between L.J.'s two talks. For details of the full Library Up Late program, click here.
